About Amy

A ‘formidable talent’ (Opera Today) and recipient of Glyndebourne’s prestigious John Christie Award, mezzo-soprano Amy Holyland is rapidly establishing herself as one of the most compelling artists of her generation. Currently an ENO Harewood Artist, Amy is increasingly recognized for her commanding stage presence and a voice of rare interpretive depth.

The 2025/26 season sees Amy return to English National Opera as Sister Lillianne in Dead Man Walking (also covering Sister Helen Prejean) and Begbick (cover) in Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny. Internationally, she joins the Bayerische Staatsoper for the world premiere of Brett Dean’s Of One Blood, covering the role of Female Consort III.

As a Harewood Artist, Amy has already mastered a broad and diverse repertoire at ENO, including Maddalena (Rigoletto), Flora (La traviata), Zweite Dame (Die Zauberflöte), and Daughter 5 (Akhnaten). Her relationship with Glyndebourne has been equally significant; following her graduation from the Guildhall School’s opera course, she appeared with the Festival and Tour in roles ranging from the mezzo soloist in Mozart’s Requiem under Robin Ticciati to covering Baba the Turk (The Rake’s Progress), Bradamante (Alcina), and Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro).

On the concert platform, Amy is a sought-after soloist, performing under the distinguished batons of Masaaki Suzuki, John Butt, and Martyn Brabbins. She has graced the UK’s most iconic stages, from the Royal Albert Hall (Verdi’s Requiem) to King’s College, Cambridge (Tippett’s A Child of Our Time). Her upcoming concert highlights include Mahler’s Rückert-Lieder, Dvořák’s Stabat Mater, and Mendelssohn’s Elijah.

Originally from South Cumbria, Amy is an alumna of both the Royal Academy of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Her early career was marked by standout performances in The Rape of Lucretia, Hansel & Gretel (Opera Holland Park), and the "Bach the European" concert series.

Amy is based in London
