About Jasurbek
Uzbekistani bass Jasurbek Khaydarov received his Bachelor's degree from the Gnessin Academy of Music in 2023 and joined the Young Opera Artists Program of the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow in 2022. He was awarded the Emerging Voice Prize at the 22nd Concorso Lirico Internazionale Ottavio Ziino and the Young Talent Prize at the 57th International Vocal Competition. He also made his UK debut at Wigmore Hall in a recital of Russian songs curated by Iain Burnside.
Following his participation in the Salzburg Festival Young Singers Project, Jasurbek joined the Dutch National Opera Studio through the 2025/26 season. His repertoire includes Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro, Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte, Masetto in Don Giovanni, Colline in La bohème, Aleko and the Old Gypsy in Aleko, King René in Iolanta, Prince Gremin in Eugene Onegin, the Drunken Poet, Coridon, Winter and Hymen in The Fairy Queen, and Uberto in La serva padrona.
Recent highlights include Colline in La bohème at the Tiroler Festspiele Erl, the Imperial Commissioner in Madama Butterfly at both the Baden-Baden Osterfestspiele and with the Berliner Philharmoniker under Kirill Petrenko, Shelkalov in Boris Godunov at Dutch National Opera, Lodovico in Verdi's Otello at Opéra national du Rhin, and Mozart's Requiem at the Concertgebouw.
Upcoming engagements include Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro at Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Alidoro in Rossini's La Cenerentola with the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra, Bertrand in Iolanta with Dutch National Opera, and Masetto in Don Giovanni at the Opéra de Toulon.

Pero cantaron bien y no sólo los papeles principales sino los cameos que normalmente demuestran la pericia de una casa de ópera para llenar con buenos artistas roles aparentemente secundarios pero que contribuyen tanto como los principales al éxito de cualquier velada de ópera. Precisamente por ello quiero destacar primeramente la Xenia cálida y brillante de Inna Demenkova y la voz firme y bien lubricada de Jasurbek Khaydarov como Shchelkalov. [translated] Nor did the other characters manage to outline themselves according to the dramatic contours required by the score. But they sang well, and not only the leading roles, but the cameos that normally demonstrate the skill of an opera house to fill with good artists, apparently secondary roles but which contribute as much as the main ones to the success of any opera evening. Precisely for this reason, I want to highlight first of all the warm and bright Xenia of Inna Demenkova and the firm and well-lubricated voice of Jasurbek Khaydarov as Shchelkalov.
