About Rafael Humberto

Mexican tenor Rafael Humberto Rojas is currently a graduate student at the Royal Northern College of Music after being awarded the prestigious International Artist Diploma scholarship.

This season, Rafael will perform the role of Rafael in Christof Loy's new production of El Gato Montés at the Teatro de la Zarzuela, Madrid. He will also make his role debut of Alfredo La Traviata at the Buxton International Festival 2026. At RNCM, he sung Le Prince in Prokofiev's L'amour des trois oranges and Schoolmaster in Janáček's The Cunning Little Vixen.

Prior to studying in Manchester, Rafael was part of the Mexican Opera Studio, where he performed in Bizet's Carmen, Massenet's Manon and a selection of Mexican operas by Melesio Morales, Carlos Jimenez Marabak and Daniel Catan.

Rafael claimed first prize at the regional Mexican Metropolitan Opera's Laffont Competition in both 2022 and 2023 and at the Carlo Morelli Zarzuela Competition at the Palace of Fine Arts in Mexico City. In 2024, he also performed in the Houston Grand Opera's aria concert. He won second prize at the 2026 Clonter Opera competition.

Next season Rafael will join the International Opera Studio at Opernhaus Zürich.
